Querida comunidad Valdiviana,
Frente a los hechos denunciados por la I. Municipalidad de Valdivia y las imágenes de conocimiento público, en relación a los perros “Viejito” y “Caballita”, como ONG GAAP quisiéramos alzar nuestra voz y manifestar nuestro absoluto repudio a cualquier acto de maltrato o crueldad animal. Esperamos que todos quienes resulten responsables de los lamentables hechos asuman las consecuencias legales, aplicándose el estricto rigor de la ley. Al mismo tiempo, nos gustaría enfatizar que como una organización profesional, no respaldamos ningún tipo de violencia física, mental o emocional o abuso hacia cualquier persona o animal, en ningún momento, por ninguna razón.
Desde hace 12 años, desde Valdivia, nuestra misión ha sido impulsar un cambio en la manera en que las personas piensan y se comportan para abordar las presiones actuales que amenazan a los animales, las personas y el medioambiente. Entre nuestros varios proyectos y programas, se encuentra el programa de educación en tenencia responsable de mascotas denominado Mascotas Saludables, gracias al cual desde el 2019 hemos educado a niños, niñas, adultos y profesores/as en cómo construir un vínculo más amoroso y respetuoso con nuestras mascotas y el entorno.
En virtud de esa experiencia y convencidos de que la educación es una importante herramienta para reducir el abandono y prevenir el maltrato animal, persistiremos con más fuerza en nuestro trabajo y continuaremos educando a más comunidades ya que creemos fehacientemente que, a través de estas iniciativas, podemos lograr el tipo de cambio necesario para evitar que sigan ocurriendo hechos de maltrato animal, como los que afectan hoy a nuestra comunidad.
Fellow members of the Valdivian community,
In light of the incidents reported by the Municipality of Valdivia and the widely circulated images concerning the dogs "Viejito" and "Caballita," on behalf of The GAAP, we wish to raise our voice and express our complete condemnation of any act of mistreatment or cruelty towards animals. We hope that all those responsible for these regrettable events face the legal consequences, subject to the strict enforcement of the law. At the same time, we would like to emphasize that as a professional organization, we do not endorse any form of physical, mental, or emotional violence or abuse towards any person or animal, at any time, for any reason.
For the past 12 years we have worked from our home base in Valdivia, with the mission of provoking change in how people think and behave to address the current pressures that threaten animals, people, and the environment. Among our various projects and programs, we have the responsible pet ownership education program called "Healthy Pets," through which, since 2019, we have been educating children, adults, and teachers on how to build a more loving and respectful bond with our pets and the environment.
Based on this experience and convinced that education is a crucial tool to reduce abandonment and prevent animal cruelty, we will persist with greater vigor in our work and continue with our focus to educate a greater number of communities. We firmly believe that through these initiatives, we can achieve the necessary change to prevent further incidents of animal mistreatment, such as those that have recently affected our community.
