A “champion’s” fight
“Campeón” means “champion” in English and that is exactly what this poor dog is going to have to be! A few days ago, Campeón's owner was walking with him toward the center of Todos Santos. The owner was confronted by an elderly man from the community, and an argument ensued. The older man, in a fit of anger, attacked the dog with a machete, leaving him with multiple life-threatening injuries - one in particular that nearly severed his spinal cord.
The owner grabbed his dog as soon as he could and ran off with him. Thankfully, he had heard about our telemedicine project and immediately called our paraveterinarian, Andrés, to see if we could help. Of course, this case was far too serious to be dealt with in the field, so poor Campeón was rushed to our partner clinic in the nearest city and is now being stabilized in the hospital.
Unfortunately, acts of violence like the attack on Campeón are all too frequent in these remote areas, which is exactly why your support not only helps injured animals, but also educates the community to prevent this kind of horrific event from happening again.
We urgently need to raise the funds for the surgery and subsequent care for this "champion"! Can you help? The initial treatment and surgery to repair and treat all his wounds will cost at least $600 and the necessary follow-up care will nearly double that total taking into consideration the medication, transportation, and follow-ups that he will need during his recovery.
We believe that Campeón deserves a fighting chance! Please help today!
